Women Sport Australia (WSA), the national advocacy body for Women in Sport, are pleased to announce the judges for the 2021 Women in Sport Photo Action Awards (#WISPAA).

The four-person judging panel will consist of Federal Minister for Sport, the Hon. Richard Colbeck, multi-award winning journalist Samantha Lane, Director of Editorial for Getty Images Asia Pacific Cassie Trotter and NewsCorp sports writer Selina Steele.

Minister for Sport, Senator the Hon Richard Colbeck said since its inception, WISPAA has presented spectacular images of women participating in sport across the country, demonstrating the skill, strength, and resilience of athletes.

“WISPAA is giving the opportunity for professional and amateur photographers to capture, present and display athletes.

“The awards will continue to provide insights into women’s sport and inspire participation of young girls and women across the country.”

Images can be entered for #WISPAA that were taken between 1 May 2020 and 30 April 2021 with two award categories: one for professional photographers and one for amateur photographers.

The 2020 #WISPAA competition attracted hundreds of images from around Australia. Victorian Michael Willson was crowned the professional winner with another Tayla Harris image, ‘From the Kick to a Punch’, while Queenslander Casey Sims was named the amateur winner for her incredible pole vaulting image, ‘In Full Flight’ featuring Elizaveta Parnov.

Former Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander has also thrown her support behind WISPAA in 2021.

“It is so important that our female athletes get the same volume of coverage in the media as their male counterparts as we grow women’s sport across the country. #WISPAA has done a fantastic job of highlighting strong action shots of female athletes from a variety of sports and it’s time that we saw more of them not only in the competition but in mainstream media.”

To enter in 2021, photographers can submit up to five photos of Australian sportswomen in action via WSA’s dedicated #WISPAA web page: www.womensportaustralia.com.au/wispaa

Photos submitted must show an Australian sportswoman or sportswomen aged over 18 actively participating in sport at any level in Australia. The sport can be amateur or professional. Judges will favour photos that depict the athleticism, strength and the skill of a woman or women aged over 18 participating in sport. Further terms and conditions can be found on the #WISPAA website.

#WISPAA entries will close on May 31, 2021.
