Southern Cross Care joins the Australian Masters Games team
The Australian Masters Games is proud to announce Southern Cross Care – one of South Australia’s largest employers – as the official naming rights sponsor of the Games workforce program at the 15th edition of the Australian Masters Games in Adelaide this October.
More than 1500 volunteers and staff will make up the Southern Cross Care Games workforce, as they descend on the South Australian capital for the Australian Masters Games, and deliver crucial services throughout what is Australia’s largest multi-sport event.
The announcement coincides with Volunteering Australia’s National Volunteers Week (11-17 May) – the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia, highlighting and thanking the more than 6 million Australians who volunteer each year.
Established in 1968, Southern Cross Care has a long and proud history in providing retirement and aged care services throughout South Australia, employing over 2100 people and over 400 volunteers across 52 sites.
Southern Cross Care’s villas, apartments and units are all designed to offer the very best in retirement living, with residential care centres providing the highest quality support and amenities to residents, as well as extensive home support, respite care and wellbeing services.
Southern Cross Care (SA & NT) CEO Andrew Larpent said the proposal to support the Australian Masters Games and its thousands of volunteers was an easy one to support, as the event aligns perfectly with the values and ethos of what Southern Cross Care is all about.
“We are a non-profit organisation that is all about people,” Mr. Larpent said.
“We encourage our staff, volunteers and customers to remain connected and involved in their community. Like following, supporting and participating in sport at any age, at any level is an important part of this.”
“We wanted to be involved and; to be connected with a like-minded organisation aligned with our own philosophies for Australians to remain active and healthy.”
Southern Cross Care will also host an inclusive ‘thank you’ function for all Australian Masters Games volunteers at their facility, John Martin House, at the conclusion of the event.
Furthermore, many staff, volunteers and residents of Southern Cross Care will support the Australian Masters Games as participants or volunteers, as part of the non-profit organisation’s staff development program.
“My wife and I wanted to be part so we have both entered the croquet tournament and I am certain Southern Cross Care will be well represented across the 57 sports on offer at the Games” said Andrew Larpent.
The Australian Masters Games is a mass participation sporting event for anyone over the age of 30, attracting over 10,000 participants across 57 sports, with the 15th edition being held in Adelaide from the 3rd to 10th October 2015.

The event is open to anyone who meets the age requirements of their sport of choice. It does not impose qualifying standards and welcomes participants from all over the world. The only criteria to compete in the Australian Masters Games is you must meet the minimum age criteria which in most sports is 30 years.
