As the sport industry gears up for the upcoming major events season and embraces the new Covid-normal, the National Sports & Physical Activity Convention (NSC23) is set to honour the industry’s innovative efforts with the Australian Sport, Recreation, and Play Innovation Awards. With a record number of submissions this year, the short-listing process was challenging due to the exceptionally high standards. The finalists in each category have been identified, and the winners will be announced at the NSC Oration on Thursday, 27th July.

The awards span various categories, including Programs and Activities, Sport and Inclusion, Social Value of Participation, Marketing and Communications, Young Innovator of the Year, Major Event Promotion, Technology, Sport and Leisure Facility Design, Sports Surfaces, Sport and Climate Change, Playground Design, and Community Sports Fundraising. Each category winner will receive a trophy and have the opportunity to compete for the overall Australian Sport, Recreation, and Play Innovation Award, with the chance to showcase their project at NSC 2024.

The NSC Oration, to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, will feature insightful discussions on global mega-events and their impact on sport, legacy, integrity, inclusion, and management. Distinguished speakers include Tim Hollingsworth OBE, Chief Executive of Sport England, who will draw on the learnings from the London Olympics in 2012 through to the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022. The event will also include a thought leaders panel discussion and networking session.

The NSC23 Industry Innovation Awards celebrate the remarkable work being done by individuals and organizations across Australia to encourage community participation, foster inclusion, promote sustainability, and drive innovation in the sport, recreation, and play sector. This event serves as a platform to acknowledge and recognize the outstanding contributions that shape the industry and contribute to its growth and development.

As the NSC23 approaches, anticipation builds for the announcement of the award winners who will be celebrated for their dedication and commitment to enhancing the sporting landscape in Australia. Stay tuned for the exciting outcomes and the positive impact these innovations will have on communities nationwide.
