As climate change continues to be a critical issue that impacts our daily lives, the ways we produce and consume sports are also being affected. The extent to which sports respond to climate change, such as minimizing carbon emissions and adapting to climate impacts, will become more dire. Therefore, it is crucial for sports to respond now to address current and emerging sustainability challenges.

The popularity of sports creates opportunities to promote and influence individual behavior change and drive organizational efforts to be environmentally sustainable. However, the sport management academy is currently limited in its efforts to highlight, examine, and educate industry and students on the issues raised due to changes in the natural environment and the impact on the sport sector.

To bridge this gap, a recent study published in a special issue of the sport management academy examined the current and future environmental challenges in sport management. The study included five articles that aimed to provide an overview of the issue and encourage further research projects.

The study found that sport is not inherently sustainable or unsustainable. It is up to the industry to critically assess existing practices and enhance the management knowledge that not only influences the world of sport and sport managers but also policymakers and sport fans on mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The implications of this study are significant. It encourages sports researchers to critically assess existing practices and enhance management knowledge to create a more sustainable future for the industry. By doing so, sports can help mitigate the impacts of climate change and promote sustainability on a global scale.

Overall, this study highlights the importance of addressing climate change in the sport industry. By working towards a more sustainable future, the sport industry can make a significant impact in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. It is crucial for industry professionals and policymakers to take action now to address these issues and ensure a better future for all.
