CAS is thrilled to hear UniSport Australia has announced the signing of a groundbreaking Memorandum of
Understanding (MOU) with the Association of Indian Universities.
In a move that continues to strengthen the important relationship between both nations, the MOU
will see the rapid growth in opportunities for both Australian and Indian students to enrich their
university level education through sport.
With a revolutionary T20 Cricket Tour set to kick off the agreement in Australia in November this
year, UniSport Australia CEO Mark Sinderberry said that the partnership was an exciting opportunity
for both the students and universities.
“Australia and India are strong economic partners, and our sporting relationship has been growing
through competitive sport for decades.” Mr Sinderberry said.
“This MOU is an important step to provide opportunities for students to take part in competitive
sport while gaining invaluable experiences and knowledge through their university education.
“International exchange programs are central to University Institutions and their global networks. To
start this MOU with a T20 Cricket tour in Australia and India, to welcome student athletes to our
shores through a sport that both countries have such a strong love and history, it’s a brilliant
pathway for competitive sport.”
“UniSport Australia is thrilled to be able to work closely with our friends in India and the Association
of Indian Universities to bring our students and athletes together.”
With both the Australian and Indian governments committed to a Comprehensive Strategic
Partnership since 2020 which includes a focus on education, the MOU only adds to the relationship
across the Indo-Pacific.
“The Association of Indian Universities is delighted to be able to partner with UniSport Australia
regarding the development of University sports between our two nations,” Said Dr Baljit Singh
Sekhon -Joint Secretary (Youth Affairs and Sport) Association of Indian Universities.
“This opportunity to collaborate gives exposure to our university sportspersons to achieve
excellence in sport initially in cricket and hockey. India and Australia share very close economic,
education and cultural ties that are now strengthened through the common bond of University
Sport.”
The T20 Cricket tour is set to take place across November and December 2024 before Australian
athletes travel to India in May. The Australian Team selections will come through the competitive
UniSport system, with the Australian National Championships hosting T20 competition in
September.
