Squash Australia’s Sporting Schools initiative reached a significant milestone this month by reaching its 10,000th student. The program, which began as OzSquash in 2016 and was rebranded as Squash Stars earlier this year, has made substantial progress in school-based participation across the nation. The inaugural OzSquash program was first introduced seven years ago at Rosalie Primary School in Western Australia. In the current term, Charles Weston School in Canberra emerged as the first school to implement the new Squash Stars program and proudly achieved the remarkable feat of engaging its 10,000th participant.

Squash Stars, as well as its precursor OzSquash, has been successfully integrated into schools across every state and territory in Australia, garnering increasing interest and participation. The Squash Australia team, in collaboration with the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (SA), initiated the development of the Squash Stars program in 2022. The revamped program features a fresh array of engaging games and activities, resonating well with teachers and students alike.

Shaun McEachin, Squash Australia National Lead for Sport Development, expressed their enthusiasm about the widespread acceptance of Squash Stars among educators nationwide. The initiative’s success in engaging over 10,000 students underscores its positive trajectory, with a goal to reach 11,000 students by as early as the first term of 2024. Looking ahead, the plan is to extend the program’s reach beyond schools and integrate it into clubs and squash centers across the country.
