What the Global Rebrand Means for the World Masters Games and Perth 2029
The organisation responsible for the World Masters Games, the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), has announced it will now operate under the name World Masters Sport, marking an evolution in how the global masters sport movement is represented.
The new identity aims to provide clearer global recognition of the organisation’s role in delivering the World Masters Games and supporting the international community of master’s athletes.
While the name has changed, the mission remains consistent, bringing together athletes from around the world to compete, connect and celebrate sport through the World Masters Games, the largest international multi-sport event for adult competitors.
CAS has been closely involved in the growth of master’s sport in Australia, having delivered the Australian Masters Games across the country since 1987 and CEO Rob Bradley is excited by the increased visibility this rebrand will give master’s sport.
“The rebrand to World Masters Sport helps elevate the visibility of the master’s movement globally. With Perth preparing to host the World Masters Games in 2029, it also provides a strong platform to showcase the depth and passion of the master’s sport community here in Australia,” Bradley said.
A Global Movement with Growing Momentum
The transition to World Masters Sport reflects the continued growth of master’s sport internationally. Across many countries, participation beyond traditional elite pathways is expanding as more athletes continue to compete and engage with sport later in life.
The World Masters Games have played a central role in this movement for more than three decades, attracting thousands of participants from across the globe and showcasing the unique culture of master’s competition.
Perth 2029 on the Horizon
For Australia, the next major chapter will be the World Masters Games Perth 2029.
CAS, alongside UniSport Australia, is proud to be part of the delivery partnership supporting this landmark event. The Games will bring tens of thousands of athletes and supporters to Western Australia, placing the region at the centre of the international master’s sport community.
Building Momentum Through the Australian Masters Games
The next edition of the Australian Masters Games will take place in 2027, providing an important milestone for the Australian master’s sport community ahead of Perth 2029. An announcement on the host city for 2027 will be made soon, as the Games will act as a natural runway, building engagement and momentum among athletes, sports and communities as Australia prepares to welcome the world to Perth for the World Masters Games.
