The Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS) is proud to share that Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) has announced the formation of its first Culture and Safety Advisory Committee – a significant step in shaping a safer, fairer, and more inclusive future for Australian sport.

This committee brings together seven independent experts with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, ensuring representation and a strong voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people with disability, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Their role is to provide independent and strategic advice to inform SIA’s strategies and initiatives – helping address cultural challenges in sport, enhance inclusion, tackle racism and discrimination, and ensure programs are effective in promoting integrity and community safety.

The newly formed committee includes:

Dean Barton-Smith AM OLY

Libby Burke

Mark deWeerd

Phil Doorgachurn

Lauren Jauncey

Mitch Nivalis (they/them)

Kyle Vander-Kuyp OLY

SIA’s Culture and Safety Advisor, Patrick Johnson OLY, welcomed the group’s involvement, saying:

“I’m energised by their commitment to lend their voice to these important issues and the contributions they will bring to our agency and the broader sporting community on cultural awareness and cultural safety.”

This advisory committee will play a crucial role in shaping SIA’s Culture and Safety Strategy, ensuring co-designed solutions that foster integrity and create safe sporting environments for all Australians.
