An important step forward for cooperation between the 2027 and 2029 World Masters Games was signed in Canberra on 18 October 2025.
This significant MOU highlights the commitment between the organisers of the 2027 WMG to be held in Kansai and the 2029 WMG to be held in Perth.
2027 WMG Kansai Secretary General Hiroo Kinoshita said the MOU signing demonstrated the continuation of the strong friendship and bond between Australia and Japan. WMG Perth 2029 chair Rob Bradley said, “Both events will bring tens of thousands of masters sporting competitors together from across the globe for wonderful sporting, social and tourism experiences.”
The World Masters Games is the largest multi-sport event typically bringing together 25,000+ competitors from over 40 sporting disciplines.
The World Masters Games are owned by the International Masters Games Association (IMGA) – have been conducted on 10 previous occasions – with the Perth 2029 edition marking the first time the Games will return to Australia since 2009
