The Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS) celebrates Australian surfer Molly Picklum’s remarkable victory at the 2025 World Surf League (WSL) Finals in Fiji, where she claimed her first-ever world title.
At just 22 years old, Picklum delivered a stunning performance at Cloudbreak, Tavarua, overcoming American Caroline Marks in a thrilling best-of-three final. After narrowly losing the opening match, she surged back with commanding scores of 15.83 and 16.93, showcasing both precision and composure under pressure.
Picklum’s win marks the first time an Australian woman has claimed the WSL title since Stephanie Gilmore in 2022, placing her alongside icons such as Gilmore, Tyler Wright, and Layne Beachley.
Reflecting on her achievement, Picklum said:
“I cannot believe it—I’m the world champion… I’m so stoked to bring it back to Australia.”
Further capturing the emotional magnitude of the moment, she added:
“I just locked in and did what I have done all year… there was no ifs or buts about my year. I’m so, so grateful.”
This victory crowns a standout season in which Picklum held the Yellow Leader Jersey for much of the year, securing two tour event wins and consistently reaching Finals — including a dominant showing at the Tahiti Pro just weeks before the championship.
CAS extends its heartfelt congratulations to Molly Picklum for her extraordinary dedication and outstanding accomplishment. Her success epitomises the strength of Australian sports pathways, serving as an inspiring example for young athletes pursuing greatness.
